Course Instructor: David Sherwood 3rd Dan
Shudoshadai Ni, BJC Kata Coach & Assessor Level 3
- Do you need to learn this Kata for your grading?
- Do you need to improve upon your Nage-No-Kata skills for a higher grade?
- Do you wish to learn how to coach this Kata so that it is interesting and fun for both the coach and students?
- Do you wish to understand what level of Kata competence is required for Kyu, Dan, contest & non-contest grades?
- Do you wish to understand why Kata is relevant and a vital part of Judo training?
This course will provide the above and more. You will find out how the Kata is relevant to modern Judo and how it can enhance your contest skills. You will also discover why the role of Uke is as important as Tori in order to present properly and where and why the transfer of initiative occurs.
As a student, you will leave with an understanding of what level of competence you will need to work to and a greater appreciation for the importance of Kata as part of your personal development and how it will help improve your Shiai.
If you are a Judo coach, you will be able to coach this Kata in a way that your students will enjoy, be happy to be involved with and in the process understand the roots of Nage-No-Kata from the Samurai warriors and Ju-Jitsu that Jigaro Kano developed Judo out of. You will also understand how to coach Juniors safely in techniques such as Uki Otoshi, Kata Guruma and Ura Nage which are frequently problematic for this age group. Note this course qualifies for CPD.
Please note: This course assumes a pre-requisite basic understanding of Tachi-waza of at least 3rd Kyu (Green belt). The pace is going to be fairly fast. We need to start on time so please arrive by 9:30am for a 10am prompt start.
